After successful cultivation, you can easily plant your small tree in a new container, or directly into the ground, without repotting, using the compostable pot. The pot will then decompose naturally in approximately 12-24 months, leaving no residue in the soil. Your plant can then develop its roots undisturbed and establish itself firmly in the ground.

Interesting facts about blackthorn

- important shrub for bird protection in hedgerows
- very good bee food in spring
- Fruits also edible for humans

The blackthorn , often simply called sloe , grows as a shrub about 3-4 m high, often in natural hedges , and can live up to 40 years.

When the blackthorn is covered in countless white blossoms in March and April, it looks as if it has been snowed in all over again. The blossoms are an important source of food for bees , and the shrub itself provides shelter and protection for many birds .

Even the small, blue sloe berries , which ripen in late autumn, are usable . However, you should wait for the first frosts before eating them , as the cold makes the very tart berries somewhat milder. If you don't want to wait, you can simply put your harvest in the freezer for a few days. Then you can make juice from the sloes for syrup, jelly, or liqueur .

Please note: Plants are unique and may develop differently in appearance, color, shape, and size compared to our descriptions and images. External factors such as soil type, climate, humidity, air supply, and temperature can significantly affect plant development.
Some tree varieties are genetically predisposed to germination taking up to five months - in these cases it is particularly important to keep the soil consistently moist and to be patient.
