Rock flour - a forgotten, multifunctional wonder for the garden

The gardening season is finally picking up speed again and we would like to take this opportunity to introduce a slowly forgotten miracle product: rock flour (not to be confused with crushed sand, which is sometimes mistakenly advertised as rock flour).

Anyone who is not yet familiar with the numerous possible applications will be amazed:

Use as mineral fertilizer/soil conditioner/growth aid:
Rock flour itself contains hardly any main nutrients and is therefore not a classic fertilizer, but a soil activator that promotes the formation of fertile soil.

It is ideal for raising the pH of low soil, as it is rich in calcium . This counteracts soil acidification. This type of rock dust is perfectly suited to supply most crops with sufficient iron and magnesium , which are essential for lush green growth.

Diabase also contains a high amount of silica, which protects plants against diseases, fungal infections, and pests . Silica is also a component of valuable clay-humus complexes that help retain water and dissolved substances in the soil. As an added benefit, diabase improves the flavor of fruits and vegetables and makes them last longer during storage. It should only be applied once in spring or autumn.

Diabase flour provides good growing conditions for sensitive roots of evergreen shrubs if you add some of it to the planting hole.

Other of the numerous possible uses:

Application against pest infestation by dusting or spraying
Use as a repellent against slugs and voles
Application against damage from browsing animals
Application as tree protection / tree paint for frost protection
Use as a dust bath for chickens and other poultry

Application as an ecological blackout agent for greenhouses
Application as a compost accelerator
Use as an odor binder (e.g. in organic waste bins, Bokashi buckets, manure barrels, etc.)

The entire product is completely organic, sustainable and, if sourced from our self-sufficiency shop, also regionally (<10 km).

We are happy to answer any specific questions you may have about the individual areas.
