Multiplying the harvest with tomato hooks - how and why?
Share
The reason is easily explained. Tomato hooks, which can also be used for all climbing plants – as cucumber hooks, chili hooks, zucchini hooks, etc. – allow the plants to grow and bear fruit for as long as they want.
Normally you have to stop at some point - the end of the support pole or trellis is reached and the only thing left to do is to prevent the plant from growing further by cutting off the main shoot.
Tomato hooks are different. With them, you can let your tomato plant thrive throughout the entire growing season and, accordingly, enjoy a much larger harvest of fruit – all because of a hook and a string.
How does that work?
The system can be used in greenhouses as well as with outdoor tomatoes. The hook is attached to a rope or trellis, and one end of the string is loosely wrapped around the plant with a generous loop (since the stem will thicken).
When the plant reaches the current end of the string, simply unwind a little more string from the hook and slide it sideways along its anchor point. Your tomato, cucumber, etc., will then have more room to grow, and no pruning is necessary.
Brilliantly simple :)
The string on our tomato hooks is made from plant-based cellulose and is therefore compostable.
